Haryana's Chief Minister, Nayab Singh Saini, has announced that the long-awaited Metro expansion work in Gurugram will begin on May 1, 2025. This expansion aims to improve connectivity across the city, with new Metro lines linking important areas such as Millennium City Centre, the Railway Station, Sector-22, and Cyber City.
The total budget for the Metro expansion is set at Rs. 5,452.72 crore. The Central Government will contribute Rs. 896.19 crore, while the Haryana Government will invest Rs. 4,556.53 crore in the project.
Chief Minister Saini highlighted that the new Metro line will initially feature three coaches per train. In the future, the number of coaches will be increased to six. The project will also include the construction of five underpasses and flyovers to ensure smooth traffic flow during the expansion.
The Gurugram Metro expansion will use a medium-sized Metro system operating on a standard gauge. It will be equipped with Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) technology, ensuring smooth and safe operations. The trains will reach a maximum speed of 80 km/h.
The new Metro line will have 27 stations, including stops at popular locations like Millennium City Centre, Sector-45, Cyber Park, Hero Honda Chowk, and Udyog Vihar. The total length of the new Metro line will be 28.50 km. The project also includes the construction of a Metro depot.
To make the system more efficient, eight stations will be developed as model stations. The first phase of the project, covering 13 km, has already completed geotechnical investigations, and work on civil, architectural, and electrical components is now underway.
Tenders for the project will be issued soon. By January 31, 2025, tenders will be invited for consultants to design the Metro depot and manage the civil work from Millennium City Centre to Sector-9. Tenders for the second phase, which will cover the stretch from Sector-9 to Cyber City, will be called for by February 15, 2025.
To ensure the smooth execution of the Metro expansion, two committees have been formed: an executive committee and a coordination committee. These committees will help in managing the coordination between various stakeholders and ensure the project is completed on time.

In addition to the Metro expansion, the Chief Minister also addressed plans for Haryana's industrial growth. He instructed officials to begin developing 10 industrial cities along major state highways. These cities will mix industrial, residential, infrastructure, and commercial activities, creating new jobs and attracting investments.
The Panchgram scheme, which aims to further boost industrial growth, is also under review. Decisions regarding the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway will be made soon.
To facilitate industrial growth, the Chief Minister emphasized the need for quick action on investment applications. A nodal officer will be appointed to ensure timely approvals, eliminating delays and unnecessary paperwork for investors.
The Gurugram Metro expansion, along with the development of new industrial cities, marks a significant step toward improving infrastructure and creating more job opportunities in Haryana.
